Product Description

The Compact Bedford Introduction to Literature is designed to bring literature to life — and to make students lifelong readers. As an instructor of literature and writing, editor Michael Meyer understands that a particular challenge in today’s classroom is that students may not see literature as relevant to their lives. They may have difficulty reading it critically and lack confidence in their writing skills. With these factors in mind, Meyer has put together a lively collection of literature drawn from many periods, cultures, and voices, with an excellent representation of contemporary authors, women authors, and authors of color.

These works are presented with more than a dozen chapters of critical reading and writing support, and a generous helping of sample close readings, writing assignments, and student papers. And, because everyone teaches a little differently, the book offers more options for working with the literature than any comparable anthology — including in-depth chapters on major authors and case studies on individual works and universal themes.

Came quickly, and in better condition than I'd hoped. Near perfect; no highlighting, rips, or marking.

One of those college books that is actually worth the money

Review by A. F., 2009-07-21

We are using this book for my Intro to Critical Thinking class and it is worth every penny. It does a great job of helping to understand what is required for the next class in Critical Thinking. I recommend it.

A little feedback..

Review by K. Seal, 2009-06-27

This is a decent book for the average English class. It contains several short stories, poems, and drama. It contains very good information and analysis on all. Good book.

Never Received My Book

Review by Abbie L. Longpre, 2009-06-07

This was the worst experience I have ever had on Amazon. I ordered this book a couple of weeks before my class started. By the third week, I emailed the seller and did not receive an email back for 3 days. When I did, she said that the book was on its way, she had spoken to someone at UPS and that it would be there the following Monday. By this time I was already 4 chapters behind in my class. Monday came and I still did not receive the book that I purchased. I ended up buying the book at the book store which I obviously should have done in the first place. This seller is completely irresponsible and I would never recommend buying from them. Reading the reviews on the seller of other people on here who bought things and never got them, I am angry at myself for not reading them first. NEVER BUY FROM THIS SELLER. I am filing a complaint with Amazon on this matter.

Great Organization and Helpful Examples

Review by J. Ogborn, 2009-05-18

I am happy with this book, and especially like the sample essays and the final part of the book which teaches strategies for writing about literature.
